INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE

YMCA of Central Kentucky and Community Partners to distribute 7,000 Backpacks and School Supplies on Saturday, August 5 at Back to School Rallies

On Saturday, August 5, 2017, the YMCA of Central Kentucky, in partnership with Fayette County Public Schools, sponsors and community partners, will distribute 7,000 backpacks and school supplies for the children in our community so they can start school with the tools needed to be successful.

This free event is open to elementary (parent/guardian must be present), middle and high school students and will be held at 17 community sites across Fayette and Jessamine Counties. Registration is required between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Distribution of backpacks begins at noon.

In addition to the backpack event, there also will be a variety of activities; which include inflatables, basketball shooting contest, face paintings, arts and crafts and food and drinks.

“Many of us take back-to-school shopping for granted. But for some families across our community, the annual Back to School Rallies provides an extra boost of support to get the necessary resources they need for their child’s academic success with the new school year,” said YMCA of Central Kentucky President and Chief Executive Officer David Martorano.

Through great community partnerships, this year’s Back to School Rally supporters and sponsors include Fayette County Public Schools, Kentucky Utilities, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem Medicaid, Hilliard Lyons, Rotary Club of Lexington, United Way of the Bluegrass, Passport Health and PNC Bank.

“It’s an investment in our future,” said YMCA of Central Kentucky Vice President of Youth Development Jessica Berry. “The YMCA’s focus on youth development is at the core of our mission. It’s through partnerships and the community coming together that maximizes the potential for our youth,” Berry said.
